Simultaneous Connections: 1 computer and 1 handheld device (upgrade available)įounded in 2009, Astrill VPN is a well-known VPN provider with a large number of worldwide server locations and it supports all common VPN protocols.
ASTRILL VPN CLIENT UPGRADE
You can safely upgrade to the latest release, as well. Unfortunately I cannot help you with that as I am not using it. The only clients which will go through the WAP and thus use the VPN are the clients connected to an unbridged VAP on the WAP.įor other clients you have to set the gateway of that clients to point to the WAP that is if you want those clients to use the VPN.īut that is all moot if you cannot get the Astrill app working on DDWRT. Your clients will just pass the WAP (on the way to the primary router) and not go through it so will not use the VPN. Is there some post I can learn about this more?

perhaps I did not set them up as unbridged. I tested some virtual wireless points, but could not get them to work. What do you mean by 'point your clients to the WAP as gateway' I can't remember the exact behaviour but neither was successful. I remember trying set both as either router or gateway. VPNs drop all the time and the app handles that well, which I'd like. Setting up manually in China, ie wither OpenVPN is not recommended by Astrill. However, my understanding is that when setting up a router as an access point, this WAN IP will always be the case. They believe that because my WAN IP is deactivated (or '0.0.0.0') it will not work with the applet until that has an IP. I spent a lot of time working with Astrill customer service but they are not too helpful at supporting WRT specific problems. I am concerned the access point is set up incorrectly to route through to the Astrill VPN but do not have the expertise to know what I am doing wrong. My IP address remains in CN regardless of the VPN. The issue is that no internet is routed through the VPN. The applet installs successfully and can 'connect' to whichever VPN location. I believe this is due to that original URL being blocked by CN at the time. Installing the Astrill plug in did not work with their default url on the SSH command and customer support had to provide a different link. I have had this working with the CN Router LAN1 plugged into either LAN1 of the WRT router, or the 'internet' port (with selecting the WAN Port to Switch setting).Ī simple access point seems to have no issues. The access point works successfully to access CN internet regardless. I have completed this using both 'simple' and 'normal' detailed instructions. I chose this build from some posts saying that this was a very stable build for this hardware.įollowing that, I used these instructions to set up the router as an access point. I flashed r44048 successfully onto my router using the instructions seen here: I do not have access to the admin page on this CN router. I live in China, and want to run my main CN router to my Linksys WRT-32X as a 'VPN access point'.
